Nuong nakaraang buwan , worried ang mga tao anxious , matindi kasi ang pangangailangan sa tubig. Nabuo ang mga anxiety na baka tuluyan ng mawala ang tubig at di na sila makaligo , makahugas at makainom ,lalo na sa Metro Manila.Sa ibang lugar maraming tubig , di nga lang potable yun. Sa dulo ng Far east , Sa mga probinsya ng China. Ngayon sagana na sa ulan kaya wala na marahil problema sa tubig.

Dapat kasi yung dapat,pinakadapat hindi lang basta dapat. Basahin nila ito .

Master Units for Ideal Farming

Hard times are here. But harder times are still to come. Master Units are conceived to provide refuge in these times.
Master Units put first priority to self sufficiency in food. Crops are like potatoes, vegetables, legumes and fodder for dairy animals will be planted.
Master Units should have inter-cropping and multi – cropping. Peanuts can be planted on the surface, as in peanuts, tomatoes above the surface, and potatoes or carrots below the surface. In inter-cropping, natural pesticide can be induced by planting garlic near roses to control aphids. As much as possible, organic fertilizer should employed either from bio-gas slurry or turning over green fertilizer in the field. Nitrogen of rice or corn can be replaced with the nodes on beans and different legumes if the stalk after harvesting is left to rot before churning under. Calcium and phosphorus cannot be replaced unless there are bone remains. At times , it is necessary to add potash , lime and phosphorus according to the soil chemistry. Too much inorganic fertilizer makes the land sterile so it should be used very sparingly. It should be avoided.
In addition to all types of agriculture , the ideal Master Unit should have:
*Apiculture to increase crop pollination and supplement diet and income with and other bee products.
Sericulture to produce textile and much needed foreign exchange . It is an excellent labor –intensive industry. Silk is worth more than its weight in gold. The traditional domestic silkworm feed on Mulberry to produce garad silk . And silk can grow on Indian Plum and Castor to produce tasar silk which is a rougher quality for garments and pants.
*Floriculture where nectar can be extracted from lotus , Lily and Cotton Tree and Rosewood , Jasmine , Rose , Magnolia and similar flowers can be extracted for essential oils.
Dairy farming and Animal Husbandry .Top produce milk and wool . As the same amino acids are in milk as in meat, there is no dietary reason to kill them.
*Pisciculture. Fish can be frown in rice paddy and in the irrigation rivers and streams. Fish in ponds metabolize the water oxygen, surface oxygen and water vapor make water. A pond with fish will be less likely to dry up. The algae will also be controlled by having catfish tilapia. Small fish are food for bigger fish and birds.
*Natural pest control . Integrated pest management is being studied and implemented in IRRI . In maintaining predatory insects, the population of pests can be kept under control . Neem oil and custard apple seed oil can be produced into a highly effective organic pesticide.
*Herb and medicinal plant garden. Most kitchen herbs and medicinal plants can be grown on very small plots of land .Afterwards , they can be immediately used or kept as homeopathic extracts preserved with alcohol.
There must be an environment balance so soft energy technology should be implemented. This includes solar electric cells, grills, ovens and water heaters; wind electric generators and water pumps ; locally –produced hydro –electric power from dams; and biogas to produce fuel.
To have effective bio-gas digesters animal and green manure needed. Water hyacinth which tend to clog water-ways is an effective water purifier and can be used in digesters .
All kinds of dung can be used , but management of animals requires much food and hence water.
Vegetarians only require animals for milk and cheese , which is not consumed as frequently as meat , so water for grain is not needed so abundantly. Bio-gas slurry breaks down within 10 days and can be used as organic fertilizer as opposed to raw manure which requires from 3-6 months before it breaks down.
Most important for the success of Master Units is the availability and proper use of water.
As explained in our previous issue, if too many deep tube wells are used , the underground water level drops .The exploitation of subterranean water reserves is causing desertification in many parts of the world .then it will be more difficult to grow plants and the land will become barren. Afforestation is the only solution to desertification.
All efforts should be made to catch and utilize rain and surface water .In having ponds, dams and streams , as the irrigation source , the eco balance can be properly maintained.
If ponds are not available , then they can be made by the following the rivulets created by rain water where they converge. The bigger the catchment area , the more rivulets . the larger the pond.
Artificial ponds should not be over five feet deer to prevent drowning. In water, lilies ,lotus water chestnut , and markana can be grown to prevent surface evaporation.
It has been found that having trees near the water level .The leaves attract rain and the roots release water if the water level recedes.
A master unit should entirely self sufficient with an array of agro – and agrico-industries .Enough industries should be there so that there will not be an exodus of unemployed to the cities.
A Master Unit should have service projects for the community ,i.e. schools, medical clinic , and vegetable seed dispensary. It is very important for indigenous seeds to be available ,otherwise genetic diversity can not be assured.
The days of producing a monocrop for cash or cattle feed are becoming a thing of the past. Tomorrows farm will be the cure for moral and physical illness propagated in our over -polluted cities .With proper management , ideal living can be had where the air is pure and the water is clean.
Afforestation
I hope you all know what soil erosion is. Due to incessant rainfall, water washes soil away from the parent body. Sometime even one downpour is enough for a thick layer of soil to separate from the parent body. Through this process the fertility of the soil gradually diminishes.
In ancient times there was an abundance of woods and dense forests . On the one hand , forest would attract clouds and cause heavy rainfall and on the other hand they would prevent soil erosion by binding the soil to the outstretched root s of the plants. Most trees preserved water near roots by binding the soil to their various root systems .Trees which have closely bunched root systems have the greatest capacity to preserve water. In winter, or summer or in dry seasons , when the level of water declines , trees slowly release the water they have accumulated , thereby keeping water flowing in the soil.
These days , due to reckless deforestation in many parts f the world ., forest trees are deprived of that source of water . If this wanton destruction of plants and trees is not stopped, then in the near future the rainfall will drastically decrease and the frequency and intensity of floods will increaser. Consequently , lush , green vegetation will be transformed into arid deserts .
Today ,human beings have to be very cautious and restrained in this regard .Under no circumstances can reckless deforestation be permitted to continue. We must not forget even for a moment that the seed of destruction of the human race lies in the wanton destruction of forests. No more deforestation should be allowed. Our aim should be large scale afforestation.
